Subject: “Motor Vehicles Theft Prevention/Awareness”
Every day, the Mansfield community relies on their vehicles to get to work,
school, and other essential destinations. But sadly, the Mansfield Division of
Police have noticed a significant increase in the number of stolen vehicles
being reported. Since December 1st, 2023, 20 vehicles have been reported
stolen in our city. That is a 35% increase compared to the same time period
last year. We would like to take a moment to remind you of a few important
vehicle security/theft prevention tips.
One simple yet effective way to protect your vehicle is by locking it. Always
remember to lock your car doors, even if you’re just making a quick stop.
Thieves often target unlocked vehicles because they provide easy
opportunities. As a safeguard, do not keep a spare key, important vehicle
paperwork, or valuables inside your vehicle.
Vehicle theft investigations revealed that 30% of all vehicles stolen in the city
between December 1, 2023, and January 23, 2024, were left running
unattended to warm up or left running unattended during a quick stop at a
store or residence. If you intend to warm up your vehicle please do not leave
it unattended. If you need to make a quick stop, turn the vehicle off, take the
keys with you, and lock your doors.
As always, we need your help to reduce and prevent crime! If you notice any
suspicious subjects or suspicious activity around parked vehicles, report it to
the police immediately by calling 9-1-1. Together we can create a safer
community for everyone.
