The property, which was once a Jewish synagogue and is now the McElvain Group Home for individuals with developmental disabilities, had previously been targeted by threats, raising concerns about the package’s potential danger.
The Mansfield Police Department called in the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad around 1:30 p.m. to investigate the package, citing the site’s history of prior threats, including concerns about possible violence.
Due to the sensitivity of the location, officers took immediate action, evacuating the area and implementing safety protocols. The bomb squad carefully examined the package, which was ultimately determined to be non-threatening.
After confirming there was no danger, authorities cleared the scene and reassured the public that the situation had been resolved safely.
