The Mansfield Police Department responded to a domestic violence call early this morning at a residence on Cline Avenue. Upon arrival, officers encountered a male individual who was armed with a knife and subsequently retreated inside the home.

An Officer on the scene reported that a female and children were present inside the residence, and the male suspect was preventing them from leaving. In response, officers established a perimeter and requested additional support. Scanner radio traffic one officer reported the suspect was drunk and “cracked out”

The situation escalated, leading to the involvement of hostage negotiators and the Richland County ASORT team, along with assistance from the Richland County Sheriff’s Office and the Ontario Police Department. A command center was also set up by local authorities.

At approximately 4:30 AM, two individuals were released from the residence. However, around 4:55 AM, shots were fired, and emergency medical assistance was requested. It was reported that the suspect was shot during an attempt by the victim to escape. Authorities confirmed that the suspect sustained fatal injuries as a result of the incident.
