At or near mile marker 162 on I71 Southbound, there was a collision between a semi-truck and a Jeep. As a result, the right lane and shoulder are currently closed for cleanup. Please expect these closures to remain in place until the scene is cleared.

The Troy Township Fire Department responded to an incident on I71 Southbound at mile marker 162 involving a collision between a commercial vehicle and a Jeep. The semi-truck reportedly veered off onto the shoulder, striking the unoccupied Jeep, before careening off the road and down an embankment, colliding with several trees before finally coming to a stop.

The cargo being transported by the truck, identified as large rolls of paper, shifted forward, breaking through the trailer’s nose and striking the rear of the truck’s sleeper compartment. Emergency responders extricated the semi-truck driver, who was promptly transported to the hospital for medical attention. The current condition of the driver is unknown at this time.

Notably, the Jeep involved was unoccupied at the time of the incident, having been left on the shoulder due to mechanical issues. Washington Township Fire Department provided mutual aid during the response, while the Mansfield Fire Department Hazmat Team was summoned to the scene for the containment and cleanup of leaking fluids.
